Andy in a few words
I am a campaigner, a trainer, an activist and a leader. I would like to make it my job to change the world.

With over fifteen years transforming Students' Unions, I specialise in strategic turnarounds, financial growth, and cultural change. I've secured significant funding increases, restructured governance frameworks, and developed thriving workplace cultures where staff feel valued and empowered.

My approach blends analytical precision with genuine people-focused leadership. I excel at building stakeholder relationships that position organisations as valued partners with their key stakeholders. Whether delivering comprehensive restructures or implementing inclusive EDI strategies, I create sustainable foundations for long-term success.

As a consultant, I bring this wealth of experience to help organisations be dynamic, purpose-driven communities that deliver meaningful impact for their beneficiaries.
Experience
  • University of the Arts London Students' Union
    Trustee
    EDUCATION & E-LEARNING
    October 2024 - Today (7 months)
Appointed as External Trustee to Arts SU's Board, providing governance, strategic oversight and leadership for one of London's most dynamic students' unions, representing over 22,000 creative arts students across University of the Arts London's six colleges.

    Key responsibilities:
    - Provide strategic direction and oversight for the implementation of the "Students. Transforming." strategy to 2027

    - Ensure strong financial management of the organisation's £4 million annual budget

    - Monitor compliance with charity law, governance best practice, and regulatory requirements
  • Coole Insight
    Associate
    CONSULTING & AUDITS
    March 2023 - Today (2 years and 2 months)
I am a self-employed consultant for interim roles via the Charity Development organisation, Coole Insight.

Work undertaken through Coole Insight includes:

LSE Students' Union - Interim Head of Student Voice - October till December 2024

UCA Students' Union - Change Director and Interim CEO - September 2023 till November 2024

UCLAN Students Union - Interim Director of Student Voice - March till June 2023
  • UCA Students' Union
Change Director and Interim Chief Executive Officer
    CONSULTING & AUDITS
    September 2023 - November 2024 (1 year and 2 months)
This was a contracted role aimed at delivering a turnaround plan to bring about strategic, cultural, and structural change to make the organisation fit for purpose following a poor Organisational Health Assessment.

By the end of the contract the union was fundamentally different with a new approach to membership delivery, and positioned as a credible and independent partner with the institution across all levels.

    Key achievements:

    - Full restructure undertaken and completed.

    - Agreement of increased funding resulting in a 38% funding raise for the 24/25 financial year during very difficult financial conditions for the institution

    - Undertook full strategic and commercial review providing the new permeant CEO with all the information required to deliver a new strategy quickly and with full institutional buy in
