Emily in a few words
Having chosen Dublin as my home, I like nothing better than exploring streets broad and narrow to seek out-of-the-way discoveries. Whether that's through my own 'All About Dublin'​ meanderings, for ALHAUS magazine as a managing editor, or as a freelance journalist — the quirkier the finds, the better.

Everything I learned in my (long) career as a graphic designer has a use in my current activities. I've always enjoyed writing, editing and photography as well as design, and I've combined all these skills when managing content creation, multimedia production and social media for All About Dublin.

When I'm not enthusing about Ireland's capital, I work with ALHAUS as a Managing Editor, a role which has given me the opportunity to further expand my writing and editing skills, while honing my management abilities. My average week includes both Project and Content Management working with clients, and contributing to ALHAUS magazine in a writing and editorial capacity.

And when I'm not working on any/all of the above, I'm writing articles and photo essays as a freelance journalist. Though my biggest emphasis is on travel and tourism with a side of food and beverage, I cover it all from thought pieces to arts and design to culture and entertainment (with lifestyle, interviews, and brand profiles also in the mix).

    Joined ALHAUS as a Content Editor, then rose to Content Manager. Subsequently became a Managing Editor in this interdisciplinary dispersed team, working flexibly across time zones. Content manage for high-profile clients including Fáilte Ireland (the National Tourism Development Authority of the Republic of Ireland) and brand sites like Discover Ireland, Visit Dublin and Meet in Ireland.

    Draft, edit, proofread, upload to the CMS and perform quality checks in the front end; source stock imagery and process using Photoshop; manage a remote international team of editors and writers by commissioning new pieces, assigning editorial tasks and providing training and feedback; liaise with the client on a regular basis; create and maintain collaborative online documents to closely track content calendars, monitor business-as-usual activity, and follow work-in-progress tasks.

    For ALHAUS magazine (online, pdf and print editions) – commission, pitch, research, write and edit pieces on a variety of subjects. In commissioning, find writers through callouts and via an established global network; review pitches and assign stories; collaborate throughout the draft/revision process to provide notes and refine; edit and proofread content; attend editorial meetings and design discussions.

    On external projects – act as project manager to create timelines and content calendars; identify milestones; structure projects from inception to completion; liaise with members of both the design and content teams; monitor project hours and budgets; liaise with clients, their tech teams, and any third-party providers.

    On internal projects – oversee in-house work including e-zines; website updates; social media content strategy and post creation; revision of our style guide; refining workflow systems and internal comms.

    Established our website which is quite literally 'all about' the Fair City (formerly a 'My Destination' franchise, we relaunched and rebranded in May 2015). Activities include website design and maintenance; content creation (writing, photography, video production); networking and attending events to keep a finger on the pulse. Post-rebrand, having created a social media presence we have been able to successfully retain our existing followings, build steadily on those numbers and increase engagement.
